“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

— Plato

Play based therapy.

Play therapy is a therapeutic intervention that helps children develop an understanding of their emotions and express themselves in a developmentally safe and appropriate way.

Play is a child’s natural medium for self expression. It gives a clear insight into their inner world often with very little verbalisation. The therapeutic relationship is crucial to effective play therapy. Creating an open, non judgemental and safe space allows the children to express themselves freely and in return feel seen, valued and contained. Through the therapeutic process children increase their self-awareness, problem solving, resilience, self-regulation, empathy and self-esteem.

Play therapy can be used to help children dealing with a myriad of presenting problems such as friendship issues, anxiety, divorce, bereavement, aggressive behaviour, perfectionist tendencies and transitions (new schools, homes, sibling, step parent) to name but a few.

This intervention is not a quick fix approach to surface problems it will gradually and gently get to the core of the presenting problems and heal them from within. It is incredible to see the transformation this work can have on children.
